Low-Dew-Point Dehumidification Solution for a Lithium Battery Coating Workshop in Suzhou, China
Project Overview
Project Type: Lithium Battery Manufacturing
Location: Suzhou, China
Application: Lithium Battery Electrode Coating Workshop
Main Equipment: Two-Stage Combined Desiccant Rotor Dehumidifier
Key Requirement: Low-dew-point humidity control for moisture-sensitive battery production
Lithium battery electrode coating is a critical process in battery manufacturing. It involves applying positive or negative electrode slurry continuously and uniformly onto aluminum or copper current collectors, followed by drying to form electrode sheets. Environmental control is important for maintaining battery capacity, consistency and safety.
For this project in Suzhou, China, the production workshop required strict control of humidity, cleanliness and operational safety. Sunchine selected a low-dew-point, two-stage combined desiccant rotor dehumidification solution to address the demanding environmental requirements of lithium battery manufacturing.

Project Requirements
1. Strict Temperature and Humidity Control
Different production processes require different environmental conditions:
- Mixing, coating and calendering: Temperature of 22–25°C and relative humidity of no more than 20% RH.
- Electrolyte filling: Ultra-low-dew-point conditions, specified in the source project information as −40°C to −60°C.
- Assembly area: Relative humidity of no more than 30% RH.
- Formation and aging: Temperature of 25–30°C.
These requirements called for a dehumidification solution capable of supporting different environmental conditions across the production areas.
2. Cleanroom Requirements
The source project specifications identify the following cleanliness requirements:
- Coating and related production areas: Class 100,000 cleanliness.
- Electrolyte filling and sealing areas: Class 10,000 cleanliness.
The environmental control system needed to be considered alongside the workshop’s cleanliness and production-process requirements.
3. Safety and Contamination Control
Lithium battery production requires careful management of electrostatic discharge, fire and explosion risks, and hazardous materials.
The workshop requirements included explosion-protected electrical equipment, exhaust ventilation, NMP exhaust-gas recovery and treatment, anti-static flooring, separation of personnel and material flows, and dedicated storage for hazardous materials such as electrolyte.
Sunchine’s Customized Solution
Two-Stage Combined Desiccant Rotor Dehumidifier
To address the low-humidity requirements of lithium battery production, Sunchine selected a two-stage combined desiccant rotor dehumidification system.
Desiccant rotor technology uses a continuously rotating honeycomb-shaped rotor containing moisture-adsorbing material. As air passes through the dehumidification section, moisture is adsorbed by the rotor. A separate regeneration section removes the accumulated moisture so that the rotor can continue operating.
The source project information describes a rotor configuration with a 270° dehumidification section and a 90° regeneration section.
Low-Dew-Point Humidity Control
The selected two-stage configuration was intended to support the workshop’s demanding moisture-control requirements, particularly in processes where low moisture content is essential.
The system selection was based on the production environment and the need to maintain suitable humidity conditions for moisture-sensitive lithium battery manufacturing.
Support for Process-Specific Environmental Requirements
The dehumidification solution was selected with consideration for the different humidity requirements of coating, electrolyte filling, assembly and other production areas.
The overall workshop design also needed to account for cleanliness, ventilation, electrostatic protection and hazardous-material management.
Key Project Highlights
